Batman: Arkahm VR Review

Batman: Arkahm VR Review

GAMEPLAY : Needs improvement  Although as Batman the player is given a few gadgets to fiddle with, none are used in a fashion that pays respect to the action sequences the Arkham series is known for. Instead players use gadgets to solve kindergarten level puzzles as you try to solve a murder in Gotham. This type of gameplay is acceptable when used as a tool to show off the power of VR to your casual gamer friends and family but hopefully Rocksteady has used this technical experiment to lay the foundation for a proper action oriented Batman game in the future. Erik McKetten’s “Mass Effect Andromeda” Trial Copy Review (PC) (Minor Spoilers)

Erik McKetten’s “Mass Effect Andromeda” Trial Copy Review (PC) (Minor Spoilers)

Over six hundred years after he first crawled into the cryotube, David Ryder snaps awake and sits up. His face is twisted into an inhuman rictus of confusion. The smirk he gives one of the attendants helps to explain his confusion: Ryder is a douchebag. Now he’s not a douchebag by game design – he’s a douchebag by my own design. My viewers and readers know I have a hell of an addiction to Mystery Science Theater 3000 and one of my all-time favorite episodes is “Space Mutiny.” In that movie the “hero” is a douchy muscle-bound moron played by […]

Hellion follow-up: “In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream ‘WTF?!?’”

Full Disclosure: I received Hellion for free from Zero Gravity Games. Three weeks ago I wrote an article on the upcoming Early Access release of “Hellion” by Zero Gravity Games. Hellion, for those who missed it, is a first-person, realistic, space survival game. The premise is simple: you are an average, every-day citizen of Earth who is on a colonization mission to the new star system called “Hellion.” Along the way, while in cryogenic sleep, something goes wrong. When you awaken you find yourself alone in a lifepod in the Hellion system. Nothing of what you were expecting is there: […]

Warhammer: End Times – Vermintide; We’re gonna need a bigger cellar…

Often you find yourself, a fresh and starry-eyed adventurer, beginning your journey with one simple request from the innkeeper: going down into the cellar and clearing out the rats. In Vermintide, a four player co-op action FPS, it seems the rat problem has gotten a little out of hand. Having risen up from below, the swarms of rat men known as Skaven are evicting the townspeople of Ubersreik and claiming the surface for their own. As one might expect, there were some disagreements over the proposal. Fortunately, five bold adventurers have taken it upon themselves to carry out the much needed […]

Review: “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” (WARNING: Some Spoilers)

This paragraph serves as a warning. There is no way to adequately review “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” without revealing some spoilers. My hope is to keep them minor – I don’t plan on telling you any twists or turns or if someone dies or lives. But there will be references to things that you wouldn’t have known without watching the movie. So, please, be forewarned that if you go any further you will see spoilers. First and foremost, I am a bit of a Star Wars nerd. I have read the comics, watched the movies ad nauseum – […]

Movie Review: Arrival – Yes (No Spoilers)

Movie Review: Arrival – Yes (No Spoilers)

When Eric Clapton first saw Jimi Hendrix play live, his hands reportedly fell from his guitar and he walked off stage. Backstage, he was found trying to light a cigarette with shaking hands. He remarked, “Is he really that good?” There are certain artists, certain works of art, that when they come along others in the field just step back and question their own worth. I have a feeling “Arrival” will become one of those movies that other movie makers sit back and go, “How can I ever live up to that?” In the movie industry there have been many […]
